You might think a digital marketing firm should be all about social media, and you are correct. However, my philosophy on social media and blogs is: if you can’t do it consistently and reasonably well, then it’s better not to do it at all. In these cases, nothing is better than something, especially if the something signals to people that you aren’t actively participating.
Nothing dates a website faster than a blog, with the most recent posts from many years ago. So this is a good argument for not putting dates on blog posts.
For social media, if you are starting new channels without any strategy for growth, followers, consistent content development, and audience nurturing activities, your social can signal to people that you aren’t really there. Having social media for the sake of having social media is not a marketing strategy.
“Having social media for the sake of having social media is not a marketing strategy.”
Developing and executing a great social media strategy has a much lower Return On Investment (ROI) than other digital marketing initiatives- especially Email and Google Ads.
Add to that the fact that any social media channel can instantly ban you and delete all of your content in an instant without notice, like what happened to me with Facebook.

Email marketing has long been the preeminent digital marketing channel with the most significant ROI. And you own your email list and your website. However, you do not own your social media content (read the fine print).
I’ve seen more significant and immediate returns on investment by maximizing other channels, focusing on social media and public relations when everything else is dialed in, and providing qualified new customer leads.
This is my focus with my business and also the path I advise for most clients. And it’s produced notable results without breaking the bank. So that is why I am not spending my time on social media right now.
