Labors of Love

Volunteer & Pro Bono Work

I’ve always believed in giving back to my community and profession. I have been mentored by amazing people and in turn, I have mentored many interns. I’ve seen inspiring presentations and also present to various professional groups. Following is a portfolio of my volunteer work. Each of these organizations has played a special part in my heart and has been instrumental in making beautiful new connections. Here’s some of the organizations and work I’m passionate about.

OpenMeal

This new website app was developed to help those hurt by COVID-19 Coronavirus closures. This website connects struggling small restaurants to provide meals to food-insecure individuals and is funded by private donations.

I volunteer to provide marketing, public relations, website, and SEO consulting and content.

Burque Against Racism

When my friend and former co-worker Mike Silva asked the Albuquerque (Burque) community to step up to help him fight racism I volunteered to help. I designed and developed a website for this new Black Lives Matter initiative.

Public Speaker/Educator & Advertising Judge

I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned with others. I’m available to volunteer for presentations at marketing, advertising, and hospitality organizations. I also enjoy judging advertising and marketing competitions. To see a list of my speaking engagements please visit my LinkedIn profile.

Working Classroom

In 2018, artist and activist Joeseph Arnoux asked if middle and high school students could paint Nativo Artist Rooms. We helped the students learn about the commercial art mural process and developed 2 rooms and a fundraiser for this amazing organization. Working Classroom is a 30-year-old arts and social justice non-profit in Albuquerque, New Mexico that cultivates the artistic, civic, and academic minds of youth through in-depth art projects with contemporary artists to amplify historically ignored voices, resist systemic injustices, and imagine a more equitable society.

American Advertising Federation

Being an in-house creative for most of my career, it was very important to develop and expand my network. AAF was instrumental in building an amazing network and meeting creative advertising professionals from all over the country.  I was active with this organization from 2007 – 2017 and served on the National Board as District 12 Governor, President of the local New Mexico Board, and many committee positions. I still volunteer for this organization as a speaker for luncheons and as an awards judge.

❤︎

2005 National Poetry Slam

In the ’90s through the 2000’s I was very active in Albuquerque and New Mexico’s vibrant poetry scene. I served on the executive committee that produced the largest and most successful National Poetry Slam to date in Albuquerque in 2005. The other event producers created a book about this success and I’m honored to be published in.

Other Boards & Community Support

I’m proud to have served on various boards and committees throughout my career. I love connecting people, learning about organizations, and giving back. I’m always looking to expand my network and utilize my time and skills to help make the world a better place. See my other past volunteer experience on LinkedIn.
